A compilation of Black Sabbath covers recorded by artists from across the Sacred Bones roster

Sacred Bones has always been an special label, the name brings up somthing magical in me, their bands are so wide on the musical spectrum, between experimental an dreamy, it is just amazing to look in to everything and discover all this gems. Now they released a various artists compilation to To celebrate the 50th anniversary of both the self-titled Black Sabbath album and ‘Paranoid called  ‘What Is This That Stands Before Me?’. The thing that is immediatly clear and shows why the bands on the label and ofcourse the label itself are so special is because these covers are so unique, each artist truly made a song in their own style, not like many covers just mimic the track but they truly blended and molded the songs in their own way. Just listen to the first song by The Soft Moon, it is an industrial version of the track ‘Black Sabbath’ and then you know you are in for a ride. An 80 techno russian like version? A sludgemetal one or a dark pop version. Some close to recognizing the original some far away. How Hillary Woods molds N.I.B. into her own version is almost sacred. Zola Jesus doing changes gives me the chills and Moon Duo, wich is one of my favourite bands takes care of one of my favourite tracks. And ending with a brutal industrial take from Uniform. This is a label and bands that are extremely professional and good at what they do.

The Men share first track from upcoming album

Probably one of the most genre shifting bands is New York band The Men. In 2018 they released their gorgeous album “Drift” on Sacred Bones and a bit later we got a compilation of best tracks from 2008to 2011 wich showed used how heavy garagepunk outfit the band could be. They music sounded full of moody energy. And now, look, we get their new track “Children all over the World” wich has classic rock vibes, synths and raging guitar solos. The track is taken from “Mercy” wich will be released February 14.

Moon Duo release ‘Stars Are The Light’

On their new record Moon Duo proves again to be masters of the psychedelic. ‘Stars Are the Light’ is filled with feelings and dreams. If I listen to this I have the feeling I am lying on clouds made of the softest cushions, madly in love with the sky, just dreaming and floating.

‘Stars Are the Light’ is proof, proof that beauty exists, that love is real and Moon Duo made the soundtrack for it.

Enter the world of Sanae Yamada who released her debut last year as Vive la Void and Ripley Johnson who released an album with Wooden Shjips last year.

Uniform and The Body share second track from ‘Everything That Dies Someday Comes Back’

This is going to be the second collaboration between The Body and Uniform. Their previous album in June 2018 was called ‘Mental Wounds not Healing’. This album was absolutely great because of its darkness, the album spewed hell right in your face.

They already released the first track ‘Penance’ and now we get a second track called ‘Not Good Enough’. ‘Everything That Dies Someday Comes Back’ will be out August 16 on Sacred Bones.

On this second collaboration it seems the band will go even further with their experiments, going even deeper into the sonic abyss.
