Locean release ‘Top Ten Zen Meditations’ on Artificial Head Records

Really happy to say here that the Manchester band Locean is back with a new album. The band released the absolutly gorgeous album ‘Chav Anglais’ last year end it ended on my favourite list of 2019.

Now after hearing the full album I am even more excited, This new album called ‘Top Ten Zen Meditations’ is a brilliant piece of experimental postpunk/noise whatever music.

The vocals, wich are really cool, belong to Lauren Bolger who does the vocals on two tracks of the Holy Scum EP’s too.  The band has two drummers, Danny Watson and Ben Nield. Jefferson Templeon does Guitar, Mixing & Mastering. Then two bassist David McLean and Ash Reid. Keys are Marion Mucciante and the Vibe by Neil Francis.

I was patiently waiting on this album because it is the last one I really wanted to hear this year before the release of my EOTY list, wich will be out on 14th of December an wich Locean is a part of.

The album starts with the smooth track ‘Coca Cola’ wich brings you in this hypnotic vibe. The second one is ‘Clicking Fingers’ and is 8 minutes of refreshing experimental minimal eerie nowave that slowly builds to a noisefest. ‘Sppruce Bingsteen’ was the single they shared a while ago and builds further on the vibe of ‘Clicking Fingers’ but with an even more eerie vibe. ‘Twenty Zen’ makes you ascend to heaven. The the ten minute track ‘Officer’ is a gorgeous psych, really lovin the guitar and basslines here. ‘Forever Zen’ may be my favourite at the moment with the psychedelic atmosphere and screeching guiters that hit me right in the feels. More psychedelic guitarwork on ‘Looking for Melody’ and tha albums ends with the thirteen minute track ‘All Around Me’ that is meditive and magnificent.

I love experimental music and with this album Locean have proven them masters in mixing all different kinds of experimental genres in one hypnotic, wild ride. ‘Top Ten Zen Meditations’ is all about amosphere, feelings, and intensity but it is most of all a very layered album wich makes you discover new dimensions with each listen. A brilliant album!

Track of the Month: Locean share ‘Sprucce Bingsteen’ from upcoming album on Artificial Head Records

Really happy to say here that the Manchester band Locean is back with now music. The band released the absolutly gorgeous album ‘Chav Anglais’ last year end it ended on my favourite list of 2019.

The vocals, wich are really cool, belong to Lauren Bolger who does the vocals on two tracks of the Holy Scum EP’s too.  The band has two drummers, Danny Watson and Ben Nield,  Jefferson Templeon Guitar, Mixing & Mastering, Two bassist David McLean and Ash Reid, Keys are Marion Mucciante and the Vibe by Neil Francis.

The first track is called ‘Sprucce Bingsteen’ and is taken from the upcoming album ‘Top Ten Zen Meditations’ wich will be released December 11 on Artificial Head Records.

The track is about 10 minutes long and all i can do is listen to it on repeat, I feel like this music perfectly fits for me, the music is unhinged and tense, loud and slightly distressing. The atmosphere is hypnotic and eerie and Lauren’s vocals give all this an extra kick.

Extremely curious to hear more, this one is going to end up really high at my end of the year list, already sure of that.

Holy Scum release ‘Fuck’

Holy Scum is canalizing their anger into their music and the result is pretty damn cool. The band featuring members of Gnod, Schoolhouse, Shuck and vocals from Lauren Bolger from Locean has released an EP called ‘KILL’ a while ago and new they are back with a new EP called ‘Fuck’ wich is filled with trippy experimental noise, guitarsounds and general angryness. Yes, it is very great and yes, you should listen to it, and yes I mean now.

Holy Scum release ‘Kill’

I love the energy of Gnod, they are one of my favourite bands and so I always check all their offshoots and other project and stuff by members and now I came across this band called Holy Scum with members of Gnod, Schoolhouse, Shuck and vocals from Lauren Bolger from Locean. Absolutely awesome stuff. Intens, noisy and full of aggression.

Something Is Waiting

On Learning Curve Records comes the new album by Something Is Waiting. I have no idea who these people are that play in this band or where they are from. I found their facebook page after a terrible five minute search and there was a lot of text on it so i did not bother to read it. Their music is pretty damn awesome, makes me think a bit of Locean and Shimmer. listen to it a bit and stuff. It is out on Learning Curve Records.

Locean release ‘Chav Anglais’ on Artificial Head Records

From Manchester comes the band Locean with an incredible new release. This is another one of those bands this year that excels in their originality. Locean brilliantly infuses their music with a lot of different genres, there is noiserock, punkrock, nowave, psych and I don’t know what else. They experiment with these genres and create something unique and very pleasant to listen to. The album starts of with a 7 minute track with a gorgeous bassline, noiseguiters through the track and the hypnotic vocals of Lauren Bolger. “Skyn” is the second track and sounds like a trip on mushrooms, six minutes of trance. “Pussycat” was the single and the most energetic track. The album closes with “No Skyn” and shows a band that can create an hypnotic atmosphere with noise influences and psych.

“Chav Anglais” is released November 1 on Artificial Head Records and is a beautiful piece of hypnotic psych and noise. Most definitly will Locean end up on my end of the year list.
